I will keep this short and simple. Chargers Nose Tackle, Cam Thomas, had a T-shirt made that was nicknamed “CamSmash.” As the title states, if you purchased a CamSmash T-shirt or tank top last year, please let me know.
Here’s the catch….. I can’t tell you why. That being said, you have my word it will be worth it to let me know. Be prepared to show me a picture of it, as well.
Please let me know no later than Wednesday night at 6:00 pm pacific time.
Thanks a lot.
The lack of depth on the defensive line in San Diego is well-known by people everywhere. But if you take a step back and solely focus on the starters, this could be the strength of the entire team.
In fact, it is the strength of the 2013 San Diego Chargers.
The Bolts’ starting defensive line will feature Corey Liuget, Kendall Reyes, and Cam Thomas. This is quite the trio to form a 3-4 defense around. For the sake of this piece, we’ll be taking a closer look at Camaron Thomas.
As you can see from his stat line, Thomas has only started a total of 5 games in three seasons. In 2011, Thomas had a very successful year coming off of the bench. He tied for second on the team with 4 sacks. Despite the lack of sacks in year three, which are not indicative of a nose tackle’s performance, Thomas played well in 2012 also.
It is beginning to look as though the team will be relying on Cam to be the centerpiece of the defense. John Pagano is said to be very fond of Thomas and his ability to both stop the run and aid in collapsing the pocket during passing situations.
One of Cam’s issues, which is no surprise due to the man’s mountainous size, is his lack of stamina and endurance. It would be far too much of the team to ask him to remain in the base defense for the game’s entirety. This can be helped by rotating in guys that can help give Thomas a breather. If done with the proper frequency throughout the game, it will help ensure he doesn’t tire in the fourth quarter. This is something that became evident in parts of games last year.
In his short time in the NFL, Thomas has flashed some great ability. Grabbing Thomas in the fifth round of the 2010 draft could turn out to be a huge steal. He has great strength, good feet, and his punch at the point of impact is improving each year.
Although the Bolts need some reserve players to give him a break, Thomas manning the middle of the Charger defense is something that the team, and its fans, should be very thankful for in 2013 and beyond.
Thanks a lot for reading.
