As mentioned in a previous post, as soon as the last BoltBlitz meetup had ended, Thomas Powell and I were already planning the next one. Although I have already announced that the next meetup is tomorrow at 4:00 pm at Fox Sports Grill in downtown San Diego, there is a new development that I’m sure you caught in the title of this post.
I promised something special, and I am pleased to say that I have managed to deliver. Through our workings with our friends at DSC – Deluxe Signature Collection – we have arranged for Charger tight end phenom Ladarius Green to attend the event.
I cannot say how excited I am to meet the next serious offensive threat to don a Charger jersey. What an honor it will be to meet him and shake his hand.
We have the majority of the inside of the venue and the patio. Mr. Green will be seated on the patio. Fans will enter the patio area through two sliding doors and pay a $20.00 fee for his autograph signing and the opportunity to meet San Diego’s up and coming star.
You are not obligated to pay the $20.00 to attend the event. That fee is solely for the chance to get Green’s autograph. We want to make sure to cater to your needs whether it is just to show up and meet other fans, or take advantage of getting Ladarius’s autograph if that is your desire.
This is a very unique opportunity seeing as these events where marquee players show up generally charge more money for a group of our size. The folks at DSC have been kind enough to pay for the appearance of Ladarius Green and I couldn’t be more happy to have him at our event.
Similar to the first two events, we’ll have tons of raffles and some great items for Charger fans to win. As I just mentioned, there are going to be quite a few prizes for people to win and I have placed an emphasis on making sure that there are more female-related prizes this time around. Many of the prizes will be autographed photos or memorabilia via DSC.
We will have multiple members of the San Diego media involved just as we’ve had at the last two meetups. They will be on hand to mingle, take photos and answer any questions that you may have regarding your San Diego Chargers.
A true friend of BoltBlitz.com, Steve Adler, will also be in attendance and selling his awesome Charger tees via his website HighBoltage.com. I am really looking forward to hanging out with him and checking out all of his newest items.
I might also have one or two other tricks up my sleeve. This is the last event before the NFL regular season kicks off. It will, by far, be our best event thus far and I hope to see a ton of return guests and as many new faces as possible. The event will also be covered by a local news outlet and we will be on television.
I really hope to see you all there. If you are reading this, and you have the opportunity to attend, make sure you are there to experience this first-hand as opposed to being relegated to looking at pictures or living vicariously through those that were present.
Thanks a lot for reading and I can’t wait to see you all there.
As soon as all of the dust settled from our last meetup, Thomas Powell and I were already working on setting up the next one. I’m excited to announce that our next meetup is scheduled for Saturday, August 30th at 4:00 pm at Fox Sports Grill in downtown San Diego. The event will run from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm.
The parking structure will allow us to have 3 free hours of parking. Simply take your parking slip and have it validated at the front desk of the restaurant. They will stamp it and then you show it to the people working at the parking structure.
If you haven’t been to Fox Sports Grill, Thomas and I went and scouted it out a few weeks ago. The venue is perfect. It’s right on the water and we’ll have both the inside and the patio area for the meetup.
We’ll have raffle items as usual and even more San Diego media members than we’ve had at either of our previous meetups. We are working on getting players to attend and I feel confident that we will achieve that.
What is really cool is that DSC – Deluxe Signature Collection – is donating some items to the raffle. They have the best autographed merchandise in the business and they are partnering up with us to make our event even better.
Between the first two meetups we have united over 400 Charger fans. I am so proud of all of the fans that have attended and had the opportunity to meet so many other members of the Bolt family.
If you would like to attend but are unable to do so due to not having a vehicle or a ride, go to the BoltBlitzLIVE Facebook page and we’ll try to arrange for someone to pick you up for the meetup.
One of the coolest parts of or meetups is the group photo. We are so lucky to have professional photographer Jesse Arroyo take the photo. It is top-notch quality and we can’t thank him enough for taking the time out of his extremely busy schedule to come down and
I hope to see all of our past attendees and even more new faces. These meetups are a great opportunity to network, increase your Twitter followers and Facebook friends, win some cool Charger stuff, meet a ton of Charger fans and San Diego media members while enjoying great food and having a great time.
Thanks a lot for reading and mark your calendar for Saturday, August 30th.
What a past few months it’s been at BoltBlitz.com. The growth of the website and BoltBlitzLIVE has been an amazing journey for all of us.
On May 31st, we held our first meet up at the Tilted Kilt in Mission Valley. You talk about going into an event blindly! Will people show up on a beautiful afternoon in San Diego in May to talk Chargers Football? Booga and myself reserved the back of the Tilted Kilt. Will enough fans show up? Can we get players to appear? Will the fans spend enough money for the Tilted Kilt to think it’s successful for them? We had no idea what the answers were to these questions and wouldn’t until the actual event took place.
So Booga wrote about the event. We posted it on Facebook and Twitter. That’s when the magic happened. Fans began to post the event on their personal wall on Facebook. Some people we knew, but some people we didn’t even know. Twitter almost became an infomercial about the event. Charger fans of all types bonding together as “a team that loves a team” with one common goal. Meeting other fans who share the same obsession as their own.
Now it’s the day of the event. Booga and I start receiving messages from people who can’t make it. How many would actually show up? Booga and I had a bet. He guessed about 50 while I said 70. But we didn’t know as we loaded the $5,000 in raffle prizes into the car with the Chargers shirts that Steve Adler would be selling. As we arrived at the Kilt it quickly became apparent what was happening. Fans were showing up an hour early from as far away as L.A.
As the start time approached we had well over 100 people there. Dan McClellan who worked as the Chargers beat writer for CBS RapidReports was there. Derek Togerson was filming for NBCSanDiego and their 6:30 newscast. Terri Hansen and Karen Garcia were working the raffle tables and the shirts. Then UDFAs Craig Watts and Jeremiah Sirles showed up and they were taking pictures for the fans. Jesse Arroyo of Jesse Arroyo Photography www.ArroyoPhotos.com showed up taking pictures of the fans in attendance.
At one point during the event there we had over 200 people in the bar. We filled the Kilt from the back to the front. It was wall to wall fans. People were making new friends and meeting Facebook and Twitter acquaintances for the first time. Smiles and laughter shined inside the Tilted Kilt.
But how did so may people show up? 200? Are you kidding me? The answer was simple. It was YOU! You did this!
For those of you who volunteered to work the event…..Thank YOU!
For those of you who tweeted about the event and retweeted BoltBlitz.com….Thank YOU!
For those of you who share our articles on Facebook and Charger Fan Pages….Thank YOU!
We are all a part of a team that loves a team. I know we didn’t get a chance to thank each and every one of you individually. But let it be known right here and right now, we notice all you do and it’s greatly appreciated!
So, I bid all of you a heart-felt THANK YOU!
Editor’s Note: I couldn’t have said it better myself. The fans are why we do what we do. We love you guys! Just a reminder that #BoltBlitzMeetup2 is July 12th at The Tilted Kilt in Mission Valley at 5:00 pm. We plan on doing it just as big and we look forward to seeing everyone from the last meetup and as many new fans as possible.
As a Charger fan across border, I know there are many Charger fans over here in Tijuana. Whenever there’s a game or a celebration, we do get together, but never to the extent of having an actual set-up reunion where fans get together and “meet up”.
This weekend was the “BoltBlitz Meet-Up” event at Titled Kilt on Mission Valley. I have to say as soon as we announced it like a month ago, I was already pumped up and said, “I’m there!”
So yes, the day came and after a 90-minute queue line to cross the border (yes, I live in Tijuana), and a 20-minute drive, I was at Tilted Kilt, wearing my #24 Ryan Matthews’s jersey, but also a dress shirt (because as a Staff writer you have to stand out of course).
Anyway, I have to say, the experience overall was great. It’s so awesome to see so many fans attend and show their love for the team. I mean, 155 people attended! That’s like 3 times what we were expecting! That’s huge! And I think it’s something great. It shows that people do have interest in the team, and if they like these types of events, all the more reason to continue to do them.
My favorite moment for me was the raffle. Listen, I’m competitive by nature, even when I bought only one raffle ticket cause I was short on cash, so when I didn’t win anything I was like “Awe man!” But it was so much fun seeing how people were so excited to win prizes, and watching how some people actually won multiple prizes. The overall atmosphere at Tilted Kilt was fantastic.
Then of course the group photo. You need those moments to remember the “level of awesome” of the event, to which afterwards we did our rendition of “San Diego Super Chargers”, which hopefully everyone sang.
So to conclude, the BoltBlitz meet up was for sure a great success, and one of many more great events to come. And the great work of the staff and the creative and genius mind of our boss Mr. Booga Peters, it has all payed off so far. There’s much more to come for the reminder of the offseason. Here’s to the beginning of a new, fantastic season for our San Diego Chargers!
José “Joe” Martinez
In an effort to unite as many Charger fans as possible, and promote the debut of BoltBlitz Live on 107.9 The Mountain beginning on June 4th at 7:00 pm pst, I am happy to announce that we are throwing a BIG meetup at the Tilted Kilt in Mission Valley on May 31st at 4:00 pm pst.
There will be lots of raffle items including autographed jerseys ( Rivers and Seau), photos, non-autographed jerseys ( Lance Alworth, Melvin Ingram and LaDainian Tomlinson) and much more. We are also lucky enough to be having former-Charger Quentin Jammer making an appearance. Multiple members of the San Diego media will be in attendance as well. We are still working with 2 current players and 2 more former players to attend as well.
This is a great opportunity for us all to meet up and have a great time. For you Charger trivia buffs, we’ll be giving away some items that I did not list above by asking the fans some Charger trivia questions. Bring your A-game, because I’m making the questions. I won’t be lobbing any of them out there.
I really hope to see as many of you there as possible. We have the entire back of the bar area reserved for our group. It’s going to be a great time and I look forward to sharing that time with you.
If you’re reading this on Facebook, please share this post on your timeline and in the Charger fan groups that you are a part of at this time. If we all do a good job getting the word out, the better chance we have of meeting as many Charger fans as possible! More details of the event will be released as we get closer to the date.
