It wouldn’t be a San Diego Chargers free agency if former Colts GM Tom Telesco didn’t sign a Colt to the roster. For the fourth consecutive year, the trend continues. The Chargers GM has just added ex-Colts safety Dwight Lowery to their roster, filling the void left by Eric Weddle.

Lowery, 30, has agreed to a three-year contract. Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.  An eight-year veteran, Lowery is 5’11”, 212 lbs. The Chargers will be the fifth team he’s played on. Originally drafted by the New York Jets in 2008, he spent three years in New York, three years in Jacksonville and one season each in Atlanta and Indianapolis.

Although his career trajectory was hampered by injury in the 2012 and ’13 seasons, Lowery has rebounded and played every game the last two seasons. Over the course of his career, he has 335 tackles, 5 sacks, 59 passes defensed, 16 interceptions and theee defensive touchdowns.

Another solid free agent addition by Telesco. What do you think of the signing. Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

It looks like TT is setting up his draft board with damage control at some of the points where he has gaping holes. He also has his eye on those guys coming back from IR, who many bloggers conveniently forget. For me, the only swing and miss so far was losing Mack to Atlanta. I would like to see an upgrade at OC before the draft, although I’m not sure who’s left in FA. In any case, I would like to see a draft where we don’t have to make stupid desperation moves to get a guy instead of taking the BPA and raising the talent level of the whole team.

Lowery comes in as veteran that can help a young secondary, he fill a need without “reaching” in the draft. Telesco will be able to select a Ramsey and not have to worry about plugging him in right away, or getting a DT on C. Either way lowery is a win for the Chargers, an vet that can make plays and comes at a reasonable price.
Now I’m glad you Wrote this, becuse I’m getting tired of people crapping all over what TT is doing and dismissing the young talent on this team, coming back from injury Tenni Palipoi, Tourek Williams, that will add to the defense. Ryan Carrethers had the same production as Mebane last season, with less snaps. I like Lowrey, and I can’t wait to see what he brings to the field.

Thanks for the kind words Arnie. I love this signing and look forward to seeing him on the field. We have a very young team and solid veteran presence is sorely needed, especially in-game when the game is on the line and the pressure gets too much to handle. A great mentor for the young secondary and hopefully a Jalen Ramsey too..
